| Executive Summary -- Election day is Nov 2nd |
| I believe if the electorate shows interest we will end up with better candidates and better representatives. To reach this goal I provide some helpful links. I blog after the links. You'll notice I am Ohio 8th Congressional district centric. This is because this is my district and I also was in the Republican Primary for this position. |

I really believe an interested electorate would significantly improve the election process. There really isn't a good source for people to get in-depth information about politicians. Even this page doesn't fit my definition of a good source but I have tried to list the best of what I can find. The media is not a good source. There are a ton of grass roots organizations the non-partisans and partisans both fall short. But the main disappointment are the candidates themselves! Why don't we make the candidates talk to us like we're adults!
Here is my call to action - make the candidates address the issues in at least as much depth as you would find in a freshman level college course. That level of detailed does not need to be on the front page but they should have links within their sites. Look at each of the candidates websites for the congressional candidates is there any indication that any of them know the principles of Keynesian economics? Do any of them explain the function of the Federal Reserve? Do the candidates explain the optimum tax level and how they determined that level? My question is why don't we make them?
When I was a candidate I was genuinely surprised with the local media. As a positive the Cincinnati Enquirer's voter guide is a neat way to build your ballot. You do need to use your nine digit zip code (the site doesn't point this out). Ironically, the last time I was on the site they had updated all the races to show the general election candidates except for the congressional race. In the congressional race it still showed primary candidates so I was still there. The other media positive was Josh Sweigart. Mr. Sweigart was the only reporter that seemed to plan out his articles. He also read ahead before calling and familiarized himself with some of the material information and background information. These characteristics were not noticeably present in any of the other media contacts I experienced. In general I can not complain about the accuracy of any single piece of information in any of the media but accuracy of information doesn't always translate to an understanding of positions.
I list links to Politics1 and the League of Women voters. Politics1 has been around for a few years now and they seem to be a reliable website for listing the candidates in the major races. It also list links to other useful political sites. I was on the League site and was surprised they haven't put out a general election guide as of 7 Sept.
I put a couple of "grass roots" political websites. There must be millions of these types of organizations. All of them have some type of questionnaire to fill out. Most of the questionnaires are poorly conceived with overt emotional and subjective questions that offer no insight. I list two of the better conceived sites here. I put the Cincinnati RTL website here because they allow for comments and then publish those comments when they post your responses. The political courage survey appears non-partisan.
Let me repeat my call to action - make the candidates address the issues in at least as much depth as you would find in a freshman level college course.
