I received an email request from a local 8th district paper. I sent the reply that follows.
| hello, I am a reporter with the Daily Standard newspaper in Celina, OH (Mercer County). We are preparing our election stories and i will be writing the one on the 8th District US Rep race between john boehner, manfred schreyer and tom mcmasters. i am asking each a few simple questions and am asking for a minute of your time to respond ASAP. First question, why are you running for a position and second, what do you hope to accomplish, if elected. In a few words, what are your thoughts on health care, the national debt and school funding. thank you, |
Thank you for your interest. Concerning you inquiries: I don’t like any of my responses when I go to answer, “Why I’m running”. Even when I limit the answer to how much good can be done I’m annoyed by my presumptuousness. I prefer the question “why should the 8th district want Tom McMasters as their congressman”. To that question I know the answer without a shadow of a doubt. But in answering that question I struggle with these: Does an intelligent man go around saying he’s smart? Is it dishonest to say that you’re honest? These and the hundreds of other similar paradoxes are even more difficult since I personally know a lot of people smarter than me and I don’t even have to go out of my neighborhood to find a dozen people more respected. That’s why I write so extensively. I want people to have the opportunity to see how closely I could represent their views and interests. That’s one of the reasons I appreciate your including my website http://www.tfmsview.com in any article you may write. What would I expect to accomplish? I have the view it can all be done. You can tell this by examining my campaign. I believe people will identify with me as a colleague, neighbor and a friend based on the brief newspaper articles, a couple ads, perhaps a chance meeting and tfmsview.com. I believe people will vote for me because they know if someone can get elected in this day and age without taking any campaign contributions they must be worth remembering. Beyond the ideal, the object of this campaign is to call attention to the deficit. I believe a vote for me sends the message "Republicans and Independents want fiscal discipline". I’ve written extensively on Healthcare and the National Debt on my website I refer anyone interested to visit http://www.tfmsview.com for more on those subjects. Concerning school funding, I was going to try and follow your guidance of writing just a few words, but true to form, when I put my hands on the keyboard I had three pages of content pop into my head with more than a few major topics. I’m thinking about vouchers, home schooling, special needs, Department of Education (ED), local, state and federal funding. I immediately thought about how the federal government tries to mold curriculum with funding manipulations. As an overarching philosophy I believe most of the allocation of dollars should be guided by local interests such as parents, teachers, administrators and school boards. In the implementation of that overarching philosophy I hold a centrist view and see a place in the system for all the major items mentioned previously including some form of the Department of Education. Thank you again for dedicating the space in your paper to allow your readers the opportunity to examine the candidates. I appreciate your publishing where to find my primary method for achieving this same objective http://www.tfmsview.com |
If you believe I will be a good Congressman, keep in mind I depend on you to pass along my name and this site to others because
I do not ask for or take monetary campaign contributions
